<reviewbody>Too funny! I went to TCU in the stuffy late 80s and never knew the Dead had played there. I can't imagine how the suits were talked into letting this show go forward.

The setlist is fantastic and the band was in high gear. I'd give the show 5 stars. The recording is very good - I'd give it four stars. Definitely a nice addition to anyone's collection.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>I love finding these moments from my treasured past, and sounding with a clarity that my mind has forgotten. 16 songs in the first set. I had bought all the Dead albums when they came out, but didn't see them until this Homecoming show at Texas Christan University. Lots of blue Tuxes and gaudy gowns mixed in with the hippies. Quite a site. So even though I knew their albums, I had never heard Jack Straw or One More Sat Night.
So pleased to have this back.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>I have always liked 1971. This show delivers. Jerry sound so young on Loser. First You Win Again. I think MAMU fits so well in The Other One. Last note and BAMM, you're back in The Other One. Sound is very good. You'll be happy once you listen to this show.

I downloaded both versions and this is clearly the better one.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>It's amazing how one can find such gems so late in the game. It's taken me until July 2007 to find this one. I've listened to FAR more than my fair share of live Dead over the last 20 years and this one is among the best. I just discovered this one on a torrent tracker and am blown away at the energy of the performance! There is that feral energy that I usually associate with the 67-68 era of the band. Pigpen is absent and Keith has just come on board so the band seem to resort to their rhythmic strengths to pick up the slack more than any time since the late 60s. They play with such well defined intensity that I cant stop listening to this one. I've probably listened to this one 30 times over the month and still cant get enough. It has that elusive otherness that the finest of live Dead performances have. My old stellar favorite 11-7-71 seems sprawling and unfocused in comparison. It undoubtably stands right up there with the best of the best--5-7,8,9-77, 6-10-73, 4-29-71, 2-14-70--some vaunted company. No hyperbole. I'm not sure how I missed this one all these years, but if you dont have it GET IT!! This is the stuff that Grateful Dead dreams are made of! Genuine magic.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>This show has that BIG sound. Sounds like some of the Europe 72 ambience minus Pig and Donna. Well mixed for my ears. The previous reviewer nails the explanation. This is a diamond, folks.</reviewbody>

I highly recommend adding this show to your 1971 GRATEFUL DEAD collection. Get November 15th too:

The GRATEFUL DEAD in 1971 had an incredible sound. In my opinion, Garcia's guitar sound is his best in 1971. It's alive, it has texture, color, depth, dimension, tone, body, it's full, fat and sounds fantastic.

Billy's cymbals could have been up a little more in the mix for my taste, that's why I gave it 4 stars for the mix.

Get it while you can, get it while it's free, get it now or you'll be sorry.

Thanks for the LOVE from 1971 it sounds just like I remember it. My first GRATEFUL DEAD concert is just 3 weeks away, in December 71, in NYC with Pigpen and Keith at the Felt Forum, Madison Square Garden.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>This is what it's all about and reminds me (don't really need the reminder though) why I love the Grateful Dead so much! Crackling energy and solid versions of the songs, played in a really great order...the sound, as others have mentioned, should not be taken for granted- hard to believe this was nearly 40 years ago as it could have been yesterday. Put some headphones on and listen...everyone is absolutely clear and for those Bobby bashers out there, shame on you- let his licks soothe your right ear! Jerry, Phil, et al. are really kickin'!</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>A superb performance here, with an interesting and lively mix! Keith has hit the ground running and quite obviously infused some intensity into the band.

The little swing through Texas is a sweet spot of '71 and this Other One suite is among the very best that the band performed. (98+ pts)</reviewbody>
